Today the Senior School re-enacted one of Ireland’s most inspiring, passionate & poignant events in Irish History – The 1916 Easter Rising. They told of the fight that was fought with passion and the Volunteer’s believe in their country and its right to freedom.
The students & teachers retold this story through music, dance, poetry, acting & song. They did not only focus on the Rebels but also showed the opinions of the people at the time. We heard from people living in the tenements to the landowners. There were Irish dancers, ballerinas, ballroom dancing, soloists, choirs, the trad group, a guy playing the guitar, a pianist, and a girl playing the harp, storytellers. The talent was phenomenal.
But today there was so much more than just talent in that hall. The energy in the hall was electric. You could feel the pride and support that the students & teachers had for each other. The confidence that they all displayed was just amazing. Ms Corcoran spoke about School Spirit and that is something St Colmcilles has in abundance! The effort the whole school went to was just fantastic to see and I think most of the parents there today, were really blown away by the whole event.
A few comments made by the parents today were as follows
“I had tears in my eyes from start to finish”
“I cannot believe the effort they have put into it”
“It is amazing and I am so delighted that I am here to see it”
“Wow, Wow, Wow”
“I wasn’t expecting anything like this, they are all brilliant”
Ms O’Gara has to get a special mention as she was the one who coordinated it all. Ms O’Gara’s creativity and talent were evident all through this morning’s production.
One thing I have learned about St Colmcilles is never underestimate them. They will go that extra mile every time and much to your delight will exceed your expectations. It is a very special school and it has something that you can’t quite put your finger on but it works extremely well and the proof of this can be seen in its past and present students.
Well done to everyone today it was thoroughly enjoyable and the talent as always was outstanding.
I really enjoyed the reinactment it was so amazing to watch both staff and students come together. I was very proud to be a parent of such an amazing school. A huge congratulations to Ms O’Gara!!!
Thank you for the great description and pictures ???? I’ve heard fantastic things about today – massive congrats to everyone.
