Santa made his annual visit to St Colmcilles.  As always the kids were amazing!!  We had a class that did a Christmas rap, another that did the Conga, another that sang while their teacher played the guitar, we even experienced Mr Connelly & Santa doing Irish Dancing!!!

It is always fantastic to see the different reactions from the different age groups.  Junior Infants & Senior Infant classes just can’t stay in their seats they run up and surround santa and start firing questions at Santa all at once. Let me tell you, you better know your stuff because these kids do and there is no fobbing them off.  They want you to tell them about the Elves, the North Pole, all the Reindeers, where each reindeer stands in the sleigh line and it at this point where you look over at the teacher and suggest maybe the class could sing a song.  Of course they didn’t want Santa to leave they would have been thrilled to have him stay all day.

You step into the first and second classes and there is a gasp.  Kids are elbowing each other, mouths open (this may be because of the elf costumes it definitely was a sight for sore eyes!) but I would like to think it was because Santa was walking into their class.  These didn’t ask a lot of questions they sat back and wanted to hear what Santa had to say.  Then when he said his piece they raised the roof with their singing.  They were fantastic.46444d18-a8fd-4418-b32b-3e8baa8c71c5

The Senior School, now these kids have a few Christmases under their belt and so the basic questions have been answered for them over the years so they want to get down to the nitty-gritty.  Here are a few examples of the questions they asked Santa:

How old are the elves?

How long have you had the elves working for you?

When does an elf die and what happens?

What is the maximum speed the sleigh can do?  Is there a speed limit for the sleigh?

Which was his favourite House?  He was prompted to say Iona and needless remark the other houses were not happy!

Needless to remark he managed to answer every question (JUST!!!!)

A lot of the kids recognised us elves and thought it was the most hilarious thing they have seen.  I was even asked if it would be possible for us to go to the Senior Schoolselfie elves Carol Service dressed as elves as that “would be hilarious”.

I do have to mention that the bars we gave out this year were from the Broderick Brothers.

These guys gave all the bars for the whole school (over 1,600) to us free of charge which was extremely generous and we are so appreciative.  The guys are absolutely amazing for doing that and we really can’t thank them enough. The bars they gave were rocky roads which were gluten and wheat free.  Which meant that almost all of the children in the school could eat them.

It was a fantastic experience and I think if the truth be known we got more out of it than the kids.  They really were fantastic and you couldn’t help but get into the Christmas Spirit.

Merry Christmas everyone, have a great one and see you all in 2016.
